Family and work – everyday life between responsibility, trust and flexibility

Combining family and work takes more than good intentions. At xappido it is made possible by trust, flexible working models and real responsibility.

Combining family and work is not a settled state but an ongoing process. One that changes, grows along with you and keeps needing to be readjusted. For me that balance works well today. Not because everything is perfect, but because a number of factors deliberately work together.

I am the mother of three children aged 13, 11 and 8, and I work part-time at xappido in HR and finance. I currently work at 40 per cent, usually spread over two days a week in the office. This model lets me take on professional responsibility and be present in family life at the same time, with everything that entails.

What family and work learn from each other

Everyday life with a family brings challenges of its own. It calls for organisation, patience and the ability to set priorities again and again. Those same skills go with me into my working life. Conversely, my work at xappido gives me structure, clarity and a sense of security that I take back into family life. The two worlds are not in conflict; they strengthen each other.

Our days are varied and rarely predictable. Alongside work there are school commitments, homework, hobbies, conversations and paying deliberate attention to individual needs. That this works is also because we organise ourselves well as a family, because my husband can work flexibly too, and because we can count on the support of the grandparents. They are a fixed part of our everyday life and enormously valuable to us as a family.

Not a fixed state, but a living process

What makes this kind of balance possible is flexibility on several levels, and above all trust. Flexible working hours, the option of moving working days, working from home in more intense phases, and an understanding that family sometimes comes first. At xappido I experience exactly that attitude: responsibility is not measured by how much someone works, but by commitment and reliability. That trust creates calm and means work and family do not have to feel like opposites.

Family life teaches me composure, organisation and prioritisation. Work gives me structure, orientation and professional responsibility. I contribute in both areas, which makes my days demanding but also fulfilling. For me, balance does not mean doing everything perfectly at once, but carrying responsibility deliberately: at work just as at home.

Balance works where trust does not have to be demanded but is simply lived. And where responsibility counts regardless of how much someone works. That is exactly the attitude I encounter at xappido every day, and it is what makes work and family complement each other rather than exclude each other.
